The OPENLANE Auctions are weekly on Monday and Thursday 2-4pm CT. Our team handles the inspections and pushes your inventory to our network of buyers.
Here is the process for the Auction, after a vehicle is inspected and uploaded:
Before the auction:
- Choose your Auction date
- Set Reserve and Starting bid prices
- View your vehicles Condition Reports & AutoCheck® warnings
During the Auction:
- Highest bid below reserve: You can choose to Sell all the way, which makes the reserve the current bid, ensuring your vehicle sells to the highest bidder.
- Bid placed with less than 5 minutes remaining: The vehicle will enter Extension. Additional time is added if bidding continues.
After the Auction:
- Reserve met: Your vehicle sells to the highest bidder
- Highest bid below reserve: You determine whether to accept, counter or reject offer(s) until 11:59pm CT the night of the Auction.
For all sold vehicles, you will receive a confirmation email with next steps.
Once the inspection is complete,
- OPENLANE instantly pushes your inventory to our nationwide network of buyers
- You set your floor and Buy It Now prices
- Buyers make offers and you can accept, counter, or reject their offers
- You will receive a confirmation email following all sales with next steps
Marketplace listings are live for up to three business days and if not sold, will expire at 11pm CT on the third business day.
Yes, 100% of vehicles have detailed inspections conducted by independent, knowledgeable inspectors. All you have to do is hand the inspector the keys and they handle the rest.
The Condition Report summarizes the findings of their onsite mechanical and visual inspection on the vehicle.
You can request that our inspectors stop by weekly on a mutually agreed-upon day for your convenience. Your Market Expansion Manager or Market Performance Manager will help to get your schedule set.
Once your title is received, your payment will be processed the next following day.

Our experienced, independent pro inspectors perform comprehensive inspections and list your vehicles at no charge on our platform.
When your vehicle sells, a sale fee will be deducted from the sale price. The sale fee is determined by your dealership’s performance tier (visible on your Seller Stats page), which is based on your conversion rate and monthly sold vehicles.
